    Adjusted digital cameras?

Hi folks--Just wondering if anyone has any experience with digital cameras that have been "adjusted" to see the infrared spectrum.  I know these will not have all the features--radiometrics, etc, but they seem to have other benefits--from the descriptions.  I am hoping to purchase a camera of some sort, and any input at all would be great.  Thanks!

    Re: Adjusted digital cameras?

    Hi,

Information found on the FAQ from a "camera converter"

    http://www.lifepixel.com/

    ******

Can the converted camera be used for thermal imaging?

No, infrared converted cameras are sensitive to about 1200nm only, thermal imaging requires sensitivity from about 7,000nm to over 14,000nm.

    Michel

While NIR converted cameras do not detect "thermal energy" they can be quite interesting as they enhance detection of surface differences. This can be quite useful in detecting surfaces that appear to the naked eye as being the same but are actually not. The image on the left is NIR clearly shows different boards have been used on the hardwood floor.
