This was a house up for auction. The visual was good enogh for me, curious what the IR would look like. Not curious enough to get my IR camera and go back to this place though. No SALE...

Ahh...the mold palette! Not one of my favorites either but, sadly, very effective in some situations. Hopefully you did not inhale when you were in the place.

    Re: Mold

It's a shame sometimes to see potentially good properties fall into such a state.

    Re: Mold

I'm looking to move some 401K dollars into a rental since it has rebounded somewhat--and feel real estate would be a better move. This place is listed for $125K which sits on 1.6acres but on the aution block because of back taxes starting at $26K. Sad thing is it's next(right next) to a well to do subdivision full of $300K ++ homes. Only thing I would consider is having the local Fire dept. come and do a training exercise & burn it down. I know this is a bit off topic but thought I'd share since IR is used to seek out mold.

Technically, but an important distinction, we are see cool or moist areas where mold often grows. We cannot see mold itself.

    Re: Mold

Nice read.  To bad they didn't quote any prices for their services.  My experience as a home inspector and certified mold inspector is that in real estate transactions the use of an Industrial Hygienist is cost prohibitive.  A qualified inspector will look for the cause of the fungi growth and the best way to remediate not only the mold but the cause itself.  I don't push mold sampling unless it is to protect myself from litigation.  Sampling is offered and I request a signed document stating that sampling has  been denied.  If they won't sign, it goes in the report.  Some folks are extremely sensitive to fungi and will not purchase a property where it is found, regardless or the remediation outcome.  Asthma and respiratory problems, specially in children, are at the top of some priorities.  I personally am there to help people with a problem and will do my very best.  Even though my degree is not as an Industrial Hygienist, I do offer the service and feel if I can be of service and provide quality advice to my client, then I should.  My typical findings are not going to kill most people but it can be a source of discomfort for a lot of them.
