    Insurnace

    Hi All

Well this topic has come up on more than one occasion. I am looking for an insurance agent or company that knows how to insure a thermographer who performs industrial inspections (electrical work).

    Regards

    Rory

    Re: Insurance

    Rory,

I'm sure there are plenty of souces out there. I used Nationwide Insurance and you have to tell them "Industrial Photography". I have the camera insured as well as the 1 million GL for about $600 a year.

    Re: Insurance

    Thanks Jeff

Do you pull your own panels or always use an electrician? When my agent heard about this she had palpitations. I am currently having the new agent get a letter from the provider that understand what a thermographer does i.e. open panels etc etc.

    Re: Insurance

I do not. Below is on every quote I do. If you are pulling pnls you probably need the same insurance an electrical contractor would have.

We only request that you provide an electrician or other qualified person to serve as a guide as well as provide access to equipment to be inspected.

You Don't use Hazana Rivers for your insurance? I just got my new policy for the year and it was only $500 and that covers my camera to.

    Re: Insurance

No I am using Zurich. In total with workers comp and liability etc  its about $1800. The issue is that I am listed as an Industrial Photographer the problem is that I open panels if something happens at this point I suspect the insurance carrier could argue that a Photographer has no business open and closing panels  and they would be correct. The only solution is to find a carrier who would cover me or change the way I work.

    Re: Insurance

Rory here is her contact info. I don't know if she will be able to help you or not. Why do you have Workers Comp. I thought you worked alone?

    Re: Insurance

    Jeremy Thanks.

I work alone but I need it for myself as I am technically an employee of the company if I get blown up I want to be able to claim.

    Rory,

You may want to look into your workman’s comp to make sure you can file a claim for yourself.  I know that here in Idaho I am not able to do so but I can use it for my employees ifin I had some witch I will not.  Its better to have them as 1099 but that is another conversation.
