    HVAC and IR

As an HVAC guy about 5 years ago I got into this great IR field. I just joined this forum so if this has been brought up sorry-I have found new and inovative ways to use IR for air balancing and commisioning.

Anyone else have this luck. I would like to share ideas.

    Re: HVAC and IR

I can't be the only HVAC /IR guy out there or am I the only one that has found a niche. John Snell talk to me. IR is the greatest thing since the circuit breaker I can't tell you the oooos and ahhs I get when I show a customer the IR image of there compressor or unit problem that was merely written with pressures and /or temp's and now has something visual to give to their bean counter.I can't express how ,or maybe I should keep this miracle to myself, how this great technology has improved the trouble shooting I have had before.Meters and thermometers are sticks and rocks compared to IR. Forgive me but where else can I express my passion for IR than amoung fellow thermographers. I know --get a life-- but my new life has been IR since I saw my first pic.

    Thank You for this forum

    Cannman,

I have started a new company that helps people through purchase process of heating and cooling equipment.  I also have started to get into the building infiltration analysis with the use of thermography. I would love to correspond with you about our industry.

    Thanks.

    Re: HVAC and IR

    John.

Great to read your passion for IR expressed. Seems like you and a camera make a good team. You have a high level of knowledge in your trade, and your camera gives you the pictures you need to communicate your knowledge to others. It truly is a wonderful technology and it transcends into so many aspects of life; From HVAC to space. Horses to houses. I am a life long builder/renovator/insulator. Like you in a way, turning on a camera, and being able to easily take one on site, changed my working life. Before, it was often two people looking at a wall, or attic or roof, and since no one could see beyond the surface it was often difficult to get a homeowner to understand what was actually taking place in their home. Cathedral ceilings for example, where homeowners spend on new watertight roof membrane only to find it still spills water in the early spring. Where poor insulation, bad vapour barrier, and lack of ventilation were the problems, the roofer got the job and the blame. Now there are pictures and the dynamics of a home are much easier to explain. I have not made a camera nto a stand alone business but as far as get-a-life? Don't lose that passion.

    Re: HVAC and IR

I just got my Ti32 imager, and love it!

I must of done 15 service calls toady, and used it on everyone. Sold a few more homes on insulation too.

I bought an insulation blower a couple months ago, and went through my first 7000 pounds, so I ordered 8000 pounds more, blew through it, and now have 30,000 pounds coming tomorrow. Its paid off!!

    Re: HVAC and IR

GREAT news! Used properly, there are few better investments in today's market than thermography. Thanks for sharing your experiences and we look forward to hearing more.
