    cameras and furnace tubes

I know that with short wave with the right filter we can see thru flames and see what condition the burners are in or tubes. But what if you a person has a long wave camera is there other options that can do the same as short wave capablities.

Is there anyone that does this type of application in the states?

Longwave systems just don't work well for this application, although some try using a 10.8 micron filter. The two currently produced systems that are being used at this time (FLIR and Mikron) are both broad band systems that are filtered to the midwave (formerly called 'short') band (3.9 microns). The results are very good, as you can see from this image taken by one of our customers of their coal-fired boiler. Getting temperatures can be challenging however. People are also using still older Agema and Inframetrics midwave cameras.

There are a number of folks doing this sort of work, hopefully some will respond here. What exactly are your needs?

    Re: cameras and furnace tubes

Well John I had a job offer in India at a Petrochemical plant and I know that I am out of my league. For one I don't have that type experience with furance tubes and or seeing thru flames of a fire box. The other problem is that there would be 10 to 12 students and they are all engineers. And the last item was they wanted both level I and level II at the same time and in the same week.

I was just trying to find out just what type of other cameras can complete this task. For I was paying attention during class when this type of applications came up, of course we go over this info in the manuals for the National Pragram Center. Thanks
