Here is a prime example of why people "think" that an ir camera can detect the paranormal. The two "hunters" should not be allowed to operate a thermal imager. FLIR should have made them take their logo off its so embarrassing.

Any trained thermographer  with a level I can explain everything they saw on this video in terms of differences in emissivity and reflection.

 

I don't know if Jason and Grant are trained thermographers, or not.  However, I would like you to please share your explanation for what showed up on the recording.

I do follow that series, and a host of others. That clip being quite old now--going on two and a half years or so--I have had the chance to review what they and others have said about it.

Your thoughts?

It is the out of focus reflection of the person holding the thermal camera in the flat metal surface of the locker. Where they see a hat I see a camera and the operators head (even the lens is apparent as it is not reflected). The letter 2 appears hot as it has a higher e value and is not reflecting the cool ambient. When they try to determine if its a reflection they are not looking at the locker and I suspect this segment was pumped up for tv value.

I have tried to contact SPI on 4 phone numbers they gave on the web.  They either have a British lady's voice on a voicemail system with mailboxes not set up, or another voicemail you can leave for a guy who doesn't call back.  I needed to find out if the Raz-IR could be fitted with apertures or filters to extend the temperature range, and what the smallest target spot spacing is that it could resolve.  The latter spec is very basic but I couldn't find it anywhere in all their website hype or in the user manual. 

Several different websites seem to be tied to SPI, and all the web sites seem to have been written by a non-engineering sales person.  They don't clearly explain and compare the differences between the three models - the only thing I could find out is that the PRO model has visual imaging as well as thermal imaging.  They would do well to hire an experienced technical web programmer who knows about comparison charts.

Does anyone know if there's another outfit besides SPI / X20 / Predictive Maintenance / etc...  that sells this apparently Chinese made equipment?  I'd prefer to buy from an established professional business that answers their phone and can give straight information.

I have seen what appears to be the Raz-IR on a number of different (non SPI/X20) sites since I returned mine.

 I ended up getting a FLUKE TIR1... a real company, an American company (sort of) Visible overlay, removable SD card for BMP images or their proprietary format...and the list went on.

 Brand new camera...might have been in response to some of the other lower end imagers that have been coming out...

 Everything I disliked about the RAZ-IR has been nicely addressed in the FLUKE.  The only thing I couldn't get in my budget range was an interchangeable lens... that starts at $10K and up...

 Since the SPI RazIR was said to be equivalent to a Wuhan M4, I am contacting Wuhan to see if they can furnish accessory apertures or filters to extend the IR temperature range of their camera.  If SPI is buying from Wuhan anyway, what do we need SPI for, especially since they don't seem to be around much?

Land Instruments (http://www.landinst.com/) also rebadge the Guide cameras. The company sometimes call themselves "Wuhan Guide", but seem to use just "Guide" more often.

You can also find suppliers who see them without rebadging, just search under MobIR M4, which is Guide's name for the camera, not Raz-IR.

I recently purchased my RAZIR Pro from Jim Santana at SPI, to the contrary of some postings I see here, I absolutely love the camera.

 Having a tight budget and looking over all aspects from all manufacturers, I like my razir camera @ $5000.

 The main advantage after seeing all of the comparative units in person was the 60 hertz frame rate, 10 color palletes, full radiometric features, and

ease of operation.

 

Ron....well of course not. When you look for assistance on your Sony TV(made in china)...does the manufacturer email you back??  This product is made in china....but when i need assistance i'm not directed to an India call center!!  They have staff that was willing to help me out every small step of the way.

Guys, I am from Canada and anyone here that is looking for a thermal camera cannot get any assistance, or is ignored...
I called Sierra Pacific (resellers of the RAZ-IR) 2 weeks ago.... a salesman by the name James helped me out and I had the kit within 2 days.

To be honest, the RAZ-IR is not a "FLIR" or Fluke product...but for under $5000 it gets the JOB done!
I'm on my 4th job and with a few clicks i am making thousands!!! LITERALLY!

If anyone wants sample pictures, reporting screenshots, or even a recent $1700 invoice i just banked on please email me.  You can also visit their site..can't remember what it is...but type "thermal camera"into google

My buddy in mighigan also leased one for about $100 a month!! If you're broke you can get started without having to invest $5k!

p.s. I got an email from James asking me to post this to help clear some facts...i hope it helps! 

I work for a utility company that performs energy audits and electrical scans for our residential and commercial customers.  Most of our auditors are at level 2.  We recently purchased three RAZ-IR units for our inspectors.  The thermal image is not as large as our Flir P-65, but does seem to be as clear.  The small spaces the RAZ seems to work better.  The manual focus is faster the motorized on the Flir. The smaller size is a plus and the price is great.

The only negative we have found is the visual camera on the Pro model.  Without a light source the visual images are not consentient.  Would be nice to have a flash or something. 

The people from SPI were easy to work with and gave great service, even after the sale.
