IR for inspection of pipe support/hangers

    Attachment: support.bmp

I just found the attached images and was wondering whether any of you guys used IR for inspections of piping support/hangers.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

How much movement was there on the clevis? My first assumption is that the heat is being caused by friction? Nice image by the way!

    Rory,

I was told there was not much movement and that assembly was not grounded properly.

Group where I work conducts mechanical IR inspections.

Have a look at the attached images that I took yesterday.

I have my personal opinion about the nature of this problem.

However I would not want to post any comments here until I get more info from electrical IR team and results of further investigation.

I think the anomaly is caused by ground current that flow in the join with hi resistance, good picture...

Perhaps that particular piece of metal is warmer because it has a high cabon content, and inductive heating is the cause of the anomaly.
