    Residential Home Thermal Imaging Question

I am just getting started with Thermal Imaging and my question is, what is the best time to do an exterior thermal image for a residential home looking for escaping cold air or missing insulation?  California, very warm days - 85-100 degrees.

Also, what would be a good time to do an interior home inspection under the same outside temperature conditions?

    Thanks,

    Dave

Great questions! I look forward to having you join what is a growing profession. Your situation represents some of the most challenging inspections. In the summer the sun is so intense that it makes exterior inspection impossible during most days and, due to solar loading, into many evenings as well. Good work can be done on the inside during these conditions (as shown in the attached image) but, even then, great care must be taken to understand the impact of heat conducting into the building. Good work can be done, typically, both inside and outside early in the morning before the sun hits the building.

I would recommend our white papers and webinars on the topic of building inspections to you. You can find these on our Knowledge Center at http://www.thesnellgroup.com/Content/KnowledgeCenter.aspx.

Good luck. Let us know how we can support you learning. I hope to see you at an upcoming Level I training.
