    Cold argon depletion!

    Attachment: Freezer argon.jpg
I don't usually carry an IR camera into the grocery store, but I did have one recently when I was checking on some construction work and found this fascinating image of argon depletion in the glass front doors of several of the vertical freezer units! I'm not sure what the vertical hot strip in the back is, perhaps a heater to reduce frost build-up; I'll check it the next time I'm picking up some ice cream!

    John,
That is a great picture, which on of your fancy cameras took this picture?  Was this just a quick scan or did you specifically want to look at these coolers and do all necessary to look at the glass like input background temp. etc, etc.  Cause I have looked at a few windows and have had an image like this come up with out having to do all the necessary to look at them..

It was a 160x120 Fluke Ti1 and it was a "drive by" meaning I did not do anything special to the window to prepare for the image. It is always best, with glass, to try to equalize the reflected background but it was not necessary here as the signature was quite pronounced.

Thanks for the reply John.  I have found a windows at my dads house like that as well.  In the middle of the summer no less...

    Re: Cold argon depletion!

I'm new to the ir market, so bear with me on this one.

When I saw this picture it intrigued me because it was one of the first applications I considered for an ir camera.  Since we know a delta T for a good door and for a bad door can we make some assumptions about area and U value of the glass and find the difference in heat flow.  Then get that back to how much that argon depletion is costing.

Is there commercially available software that does this?
